Racing is a business for early risers! updated 12h 46m ago.
A great start to landing FIVE winners yesterday at SHA TIN with a WIN WIN with the first two selections, and a $10 DOUBLE. I was really getting excited.
But then the bubble burst with a 2nd and 3rd before my place all up also finally fizzled out.
WON ~ WON ~ 2nd ~ 3rd ~ Unplaced!

JOY AND FUN won THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE 2012

Full replay and STEWARDS PATROL FOOTAGE!
"If anyone deserves to win a Group 1, it's Joy And Fun," said Doyle, who was riding for the last time in Hong Kong this season before taking up a 6-week contract in Dubai. "He's been knocking on the door in all the big races and he couldn't have done it any better. It's great for me to end my time in Hong Kong with a Group 1 winner and we go to Dubai in good form.
"As long as he had a bit of cover, that's all I was worried about today. I dropped behind Eagle Regiment and we had Lucky Nine inside of me, so we had them all covered ~ it all worked out better from the draw, really. There's always a slight doubt going into a race like this after a couple of tough ones but all credit to the horse, he's very tough and Derek's done a great job keeping him in good form."
Trainer Tony Cruz did not discount the possibility of a return to Royal Ascot this summer. Joy And Fun's previous visit to England's premier racecourse, in June, 2010, resulted in the gelding suffering a serious injury when contesting the G1 Golden Jubilee Stakes.
"There's a possibility," revealed the trainer, "everything's on the table and we'll assess him. If he hadn't injured himself in England he would have been a very strong contender that day.
"I have to thank my two boys and their great effort with this horse when he had that life-threatening injury in England. They spent most of the time nursing him and bringing him back."

Hey DeanJohn how do you get your youtube videos to appear i have been trying but with no luck
As you know I am a great supporter of the Hong kong Jockey Club and Hong Kong racing. But it wasn't always that way. Read on .....
Founded in 1884, this racing season the Hong Kong Jockey Club is celebrating its 128th Anniversary Over the past 128 years, it has become one of Hong Kong's best known and respected organisations, providing the public with world-class sporting entertainment as well as being the city's major non-Government community benefactor, now donating more than HK$1 billion a year to charitable and community projects.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been a part of Hong Kong through good times and bad, sharing the city's growth and development with its people, and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for future generations.
The Magnificent Eight.
----------------------------------------------------------
When I first visited Hong Kong in the early 1980s, with the view to setting up a database of form and maybe living and betting in Hong Kong, I soon realised that it was then not for me. In the 80s and even the 90s, the Triads had a grip on racing.
I uncovered stories of jockeys being dangled by their legs out of the windows of high rise apartments, of jockeys being held by the legs out of helicopters. All to force them to pull up runners to produce windfall results for such infamous thugs like the Gang of Five.
I felt it wasn't clean enough, it just wasn't a place I felt comfortable in, and decided to return to Australia.
Then in 2000 the Hong Kong Jockey Club realised they had to take action. They put together the 'Magnificent Eight'. Eight top executives empowered to clean up the racing and make Hong Kong racing the best. One of these was an ex-FBI agent entrusted to making racing clean, controlled and corruption free.
The results are now there for all to see. Arguably, Hong Kong racing has now the cleanest, fairest and most tightly policed racing in the world. And I have been betting seriously on Hong Kong since early 2004 and I have almost total confidence to bet there!
Check out how this all came about in this mini-feature: 'How Hong Kong hired the best to make racing the best'

MORE ON AMBITIOUS DRAGON
--------------------------------
Hong Kong Champion Jockey Douglas Whyte, who rode a controlled race aboard the star attraction and even allowed himself a victory salute at the wire, was thrilled by the manner of Ambitious Dragon's success.
"He has the most scintillating turn of foot," said the rider. "He turns it on so quickly, it's fascinating. I've never felt a turn of foot on a horse like that before.
"It's never easy, it always looks easy afterwards. He had an awkward alley with speed around him and some slow horses as well. It was always going to boil down to the pace of the race. As it worked out, in hindsight, it was an even tempo, there was no cracking gallop, but there was an even tempo and I was fortunate enough to be in a more prominent position than we planned. That was just due to the lack of speed and my horse carrying me into the race at the right time."

Well, I have *finally* recovered from a night at the tennis! I was a physical, emotional and intellectual wreck after 8 hours of an unbelievable night. Never seen such tennis.
But my god ~ too long! 5 hours and 53 minutes of tennis, just too much! I don't know how Djokovic or Nadal could even walk after that match! 3 sets, NO TIE BREAKERS would be more than enough (maybe tie break if in the first two sets reaches 10/10). But 5 sets and SIX HOURS! I was on a DRIP!!!
Just this morning I had recovered enough to get online and view the replays of Hong Kong on Sunday! Quite a nice day, with 2 of my specials winning: Aomen $4.50 and Ambitious Dragon $2.50 (I took $2.80 before I left for the tennis).
Great racing: I will be back soon with more. You can check out the full replays here: http://www.hkjc.com/english/press/showcase.asp

Four days after Sha Tin's Chinese New Year raceday welcomed in the Year of the Dragon, the iconic racetrack witnessed the 'Return of the Dragon' as Hong Kong's Horse of the Year swept to a scintillating victory in the HKG1 Stewards' Cup.
